Philips has a little Bluetooth speaker that’s kind of amazing. It’s small and light, it’s not expensive (around $45), and it’s made for the outdoors.
The ShoqBox Mini has what you would expect in a Bluetooth speaker: It connects via Bluetooth or a built-in 3.5mm port, it has a microphone for taking calls, and power and volume controls. What makes this speaker special, though, is that it was designed to be used around (or even in) water.
It’s splash-proof and water-resistant, and it floats. As long as the charging and connection ports are closed, you don’t have to worry about somebody dripping on it or accidentally dropping it in the pool. It would also be great to use in a bathroom (I know I’m not the only one who has Netflix going while I shower!).
I received a ShoqBox Mini from Philips to review, and gave it to my sister and her husband, since they live in St. Thomas and are around water a lot more than I am. My brother-in-law gave it a positive review, saying that it had good-quality sound, good volume, and was very easy to use. He liked that it was compact and lightweight, making it very portable. He also reported that it had good battery life.
The ShoqBox Mini is also dustproof. My sister said that some sand did get stuck in the little holes on the outside of the speaker, but I’m guessing that a little water would take care of that.
Between the price, the size, and the ruggedness, this is a great little speaker!
