Omer and I don’t usually go out for Valentine’s Day. We did when we were dating, but as soon as we had our own place to hang out in we pretty much stopped. We’d rather go out on a different night, when the restaurants won’t be packed. Plus, this Valentine’s Day will be busy, since he’s taking the kids to Florida the next day. There will be lots of laundry and frantically searching for goggles and things like that. Not a good night for a date.
Since we’ll all be home, I thought it would be nice to get a special treat for the whole family. We don’t usually celebrate Valentine’s Day with the kids, so they’ll be very surprised.
I don’t think I’ve ever had an ice cream cake from Baskin-Robbins. I’ve been there lots of times for an ice cream cone (I’ve even been to a Baskin-Robbins in Moscow!), but the cakes were new to me. I love ordering anything online though, and I was able to go to the Baskin-Robbins website and customize my cake! There were lots of designs, including holiday cakes, birthday cakes, and even Star Wars. You can also order candles – very handy!
There were two basic kinds of cakes to choose from. One has two layers of ice cream with a crunchy fudge center, and the other has a layer of cake on the bottom and a layer of ice cream on top (the “Classic” cake). I was able to choose from vanilla or chocolate cake and sixteen different flavors of ice cream, including February’s Flavor of the Month, Chocolate Hazelnut.
I ended up picking a Conversation Heart Cake and a Teddy Bear Cake, because you can never have too much ice cream cake. I wish I’d thought to do this over the weekend when my little niece was here, she would have loved the teddy bear!
I was able to specify what I wanted written on each cake, and then choose a pick-up day and time (make sure you order at least 24 hours in advance!).
Of course, if you don’t want to order online, you can always go into a Baskin-Robbins store and pick up a cake that’s already put together. They’ll write a message on it for you while you wait. There were many different cakes in the cooler when I stopped by.
I can’t wait to surprise my family with these on Sunday and taste them!
