It’s finally getting cold here in the northeast, and I’m spending more time indoors with the windows closed. This always makes me more aware of how dirty my house is and I get motivated to clean and organize everything. If I’m going to be stuck here for the winter, I want to like where I am!
The folks at Babbleboxx.com sent me a big box of cleaning products to try, and I’m happy to report that after a weekend of cleaning my house is looking and smelling great! Let the hibernating begin. Read on for some truly innovative products that will really save you time and get your house looking and smelling fresh!
Duck brand Roll-On Window Kits
I live in a big-old drafty house with steam-heat radiators. Winter means sealing off whichever drafts I can, so that I don’t have to sit on top of a radiator to keep warm. Sealing the windows is a must-do task, and I’ve always used the same brand window insulation kit for as long as I can remember. I guess I thought they were all the same. But I tried the Duck brand Roll-On Window Kit, and I was really surprised to find out that there is a different—and better—way to seal up windows against the cold!
The kit consists of a roll of strong double-sided tape and a roll of folded plastic insulation with tape at the top. Installation couldn’t be simpler, no pre-measuring required. You simply roll the insulation across the top of the window, pressing on the tape as you go, and then cut the roll when you’ve covered the top of the window. You then use the roll of double-sided tape on the sides and bottom of the window. Once that’s done you just unfold the insulation, sticking it to the double-sided tape on the way down!
Finish it off by using a hair dryer on high heat to shrink the plastic until it’s taut, and the entire thing becomes virtually invisible.
This was so much easier than having to pre-cut the plastic and then wrestle with getting the plastic to stick to all four strips of tape at the same time! I used to need another pair of hands to help me with that part, but one person can definitely put the Duck brand window insulation on alone.
Scrub Daddy Sponge Caddy & Scour Daddy
Leaving sponges on the counter or in the bottom of the sink is a great way to breed bacteria. Keeping your sponges in a place where they can drain easily and dry between uses is super easy with a Scrub Daddy Sponge Caddy, which can attach to any smooth surface with it’s two suction cups. Unlike some sponge holders with little drainage holes that get icky and gross, the Sponge Caddy has an opening in the bottom big enough to let out all the water, but small enough to keep your sponges in! Plus, the entire thing is top-rack dishwasher safe, so that you can always keep your Sponge Caddy sparkling clean.
And which sponges should you put into your Sponge Caddy? Scrub Daddy Scour Daddy sponges! They’re tough and maintain their shape, and have a little loop that you can use to hang them up. They come in different colors in case you want to color-code them according to use. Plus, they rinse clean – food doesn’t stick. And the smiley faces are really cute!!
Molly’s Suds: All Sport Laundry Wash & Oxygen Whitener
Just as concerned about animal testing as you are about getting clean clothes? You don’t have to compromise! Molly’s Suds laundry products are Certified Cruelty Free by Leaping Bunny, and all of the ingredients are vegan.
First I tried the All Sport Laundry Wash, because let’s face it: with two teenagers, most of our dirty smells like it just came out of a locker room, whether they were playing sports or not. But after washing their clothes with the All Sport Laundry Wash, it came out smelling clean, not perfumy! And the whites that I washed with the Oxygen Whitener came out bright and smelling like lemon. I’ve only used it in the wash so far, but according to the website, you can also add it to a carpet cleaning machine, or sprinkle it into toilets before scrubbing.

O-Cedar ProMist Max Spray Mop
Three-quarters of my house is wood or tile floor (only one floor has carpet). It’s a lot to keep clean. The size alone of the O-Cedar ProMist Max Spray Mop is already making for more efficient cleaning by cutting my floor cleaning time in half! And since the reusable microfiber mop head flips right over, I don’t have to stop in the middle to change pads.
You can use your own favorite floor cleaner with the ProMist Spray Mop – they’re not trying to lock you into a particular cleaner. You simply fill the reservoir with water and add two teaspoons of cleaner and you’re good to go. The spray is activated by a trigger in the handle, and there are no batteries involved – you just squeeze and spray. When you’re all done you can put the microfiber mop head in the washing machine – it’s washable up to 100 times! I love how quickly I’m able to get through an entire floor with this tough mop.
This product is genius. I hate cleaning grout (I mean, show me a person who likes it!), so anything that will make that process go quicker is awesome.
Did you ever have a music teacher who had one of those weird five-finger chalk holders for making music staves on the blackboard? That’s what the Grout Gator reminds me of!!!
The Grout Gator comes with four tough grout scrubbers that you can slide into the perfect position for your grout lines. (I took one of them off since my subway tiles are so far apart.) So now, I can clean my grout three times as fast!! You can buy additional scrubber heads, in case you need more for really close-together grout lines or because you’ve scrubbed yours to death. They also sell an extension pole that can screw into the handle, and I already ordered it because our subway tiles go all the way up to the ceiling, and you can clearly see just how far up I could reach on my own! Yikes.
The Grout Gator can be used in the bathroom or kitchen, on walls and floors, anywhere you have grout!
You can get more info on the Grout Gator here, and you can use code BB17 to get 15% off your order on the Grout Gator website!
PowerOE Odor Eliminating Spray and Cleaner
Since being sent the PowerOE Odor Eliminating All Purpose Cleaner and Odor Eliminator Spray, I’ve been using it everywhere. I’ve sprayed the Odor Eliminator in the bathroom, garbage can, laundry room, and basement. And I cleaned my whole bathroom with the Odor Eliminating All Purpose Cleaner, which left it with a nice pine scent. The sprays are non-toxic (thank goodness, since I really did spray them everywhere!) and the Odor Eliminator can be used as a stinky laundry pre-treatment spray.
I tried it on a pile of shirts that I’d thrown in the corner of the laundry room weeks ago because two times through the washing machine hadn’t gotten the BO smell out (the owner of the shirts shall remain anonymous to protect the stinky). I sprayed the underarms of the shirts liberally and then ran them through the wash. I was absolutely amazed that one wash had taken out almost all of the smell! I could get my nose right in there and not faint! And remember, this was AFTER they’d been through a couple of normal washes. So, I sprayed liberally again, ran them through my longest cycle, and I swear to you, there is no more smell! This stuff is miraculous and I’m going to train my stinky children to spray it on their stinky clothes before putting them down the laundry chute. I need to buy this stuff in bulk.
You can get more information about the PowerOE sprays here, and you can get 25% off of your PowerOE order by using code AYT17 on their website.
And that’s it! Somehow, Babbleboxx knew just which parts of my house I needed help with. Give these products a try, and I hope you like them as much as I do!
