I noticed yesterday that I was coming up on my thousandth post. I wasn’t sure if I should mark it in any way. I’ve never mentioned twitter follower milestones or blogging anniversaries. But one thousand posts for something that I started on a whim seemed… noteworthy. I asked my kids what I should write to mark the occasion, and Fiona came to my rescue.
Fiona’s been uncharacteristically shy about putting her drawings on my site, so I was very surprised when she said that I could use her fairy tale. She wrote it last week, and if you follow me on twitter you might remember me noting her hilarious misspelling of “where” as “whore.” The whole thing was charming, and I begged her to let me use it online at the time, but she said no. I did convince her to let me scan it in, but she practically made me take a blood oath that I wouldn’t use it without her permission. I now have that permission.
It should be noted that she did this one evening simply because her teacher hadn’t given her any homework, so she gave herself some. Her picture and story output would put Stephen King to shame (and the gore in this one rivals King as well). She has notebooks filled with her stories and songs. I have boxes full of her drawings. She never stops.
So, here you go. For my 1,000th post, Fiona’s fairy tale. I’ve “translated” her spelling and handwriting. The pictures are sublime.

That Fiona is not only pretty – she’s a genius!
@Ann: She totally is. And if you ever have extra food at your house, she can totally help you out with that too.
She’s onto something. It would be nice if she had her fairy tale cast in 3D. Just sayin’.
@josiah: OK, wait, what? How do we do that?
I loved this! What a highly intelligent young lady who is already the Mistress of the Macabre. So when she goes goth at 15…I know you won’t be surprised…
@Elissa: I can TOTALLY see her started a whole new goth trend. It would be, like, princess goth. It would be centered around pink clothes instead of black, but with a lot of eyeliner.
Can I borrow her for, like, a day? Sooooo fabulous. She must LOVE seeing her story like this, too.
@Nancy: She hasn’t seen it! Whenever I try to show her she’s like “Mommy, I KNOW what it says, I wrote it!”
She’s amazing. Have you seen those kits you can buy on Amazon that allow you to get a child’s work “published” as a single copy of a book?
What a great imagination, Fiona!
@Kimberly: No, I’ll have to check that out! I’d also thought of doing it on a photobook site. She would just love that. It would totally blow her mind.
