This year Amazon has made it super easy to donate to Toys for Tots by saying just six words to your Echo device: “Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots.”
Donating to Toys for Tots was something I used to do regularly when I was out in malls and department stores shopping for Christmas gifts. Toys for Tots is a wonderful organization created by the United States Marine Corps Reserve that gives people a way to donate a brand new toy at Christmas time to a child in need.
I remember taking my kids to the store when they were little, letting them each pick out a toy, buying it, and then placing it into the Toys for Tots collection bin. But now my kids are too old to go shopping with me, and I do most of my shopping online, so it’s been a few years since I’ve made a Toys for Tots donation.
This year, however, Amazon has made it really easy to donate! If you have an Alexa device, all you have to do is say “Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots.” Alexa will then give you a toy suggestion and its price, and you can confirm the purchase. Plus, through the end of the year, Amazon will also donate a second toy for you, doubling your contribution (up to $100,000)!
Donating to Toys for Tots through your Alexa will take you less than a minute, and Amazon will handle delivery for you. At this busy time of year, that’s so much easier than figuring out the donation deadlines and requirements, finding a drop-off location, buying the toy, and dropping it off. Your gift is even tax-deductible, and you can track this order just like any other, so you’ll know when your donation has arrived (you can even ask your Echo, “Alexa, where’s my stuff?”).
