Are you looking for an easy way to track all of your baby’s milestones and measurements? The Philips uGrow baby development tracking app does it all!
Earlier this month I co-hosted a breakfast for Philips at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and one of the new products getting a ton of buzz was an app called uGrow. It’s a place to dump all of that info you get when you’re pregnant or have a new baby: measurements, feelings, feeding times and amounts, sleep patterns, health, everything. I would have been ALL OVER this when my teenagers were babies. I was a new mom before smart phones, but I always had the latest Palm Pilot (remember those??), and took lots of notes about milestones and sicknesses and sleeping and feeding. Where those notes are now is anybody’s guess, but it would have been nice at the time to have it all in one online account, organized in a way that would have helped me spot patterns. Some friends of mine used notebooks, which they had to keep with them ALL the time. Your smartphone is already with you!!
What does it track?
The uGrow app gives you a place to quickly and easily enter all of this info onto your baby’s timeline:
- breastfeeding (it has a timer for each boob!)
- bottle-feeding (how much, and whether it was breastmilk or formula)
- sleep times (where and when)
- weights and heights (you can easily check them against the World Health Organization’s charts)
- even diaper changes and crying fits if you want to get that specific!!
You can also add pictures, take notes, and add milestones. Plus, you may have noticed the dark background on those app screenshots – the app is designed to not glow and wake your baby up in a dark room when you’re entering info!
And what about other caregivers? One uGrow account can be used on three smartphones at the same time, so you, your spouse, and a babysitter or grandparent could all use the app, and everything will sync up!
How can you use that data?
Once you start entering data, you get info and tips from the app that’s tailored to your baby’s age and stats, like advice about breastfeeding and sleeping. Right now the advice goes up to six months, but in the future there will be advice for older babies too.
You can also connect smart devices to the app, so that you don’t have to enter that info manually. Right now you can connect a Smart Baby Monitor, which tracks a room’s humidity and temperature and can take snapshots of your baby, and a Philips Smart Ear Thermometer, which gives you an accurate reading in only two seconds.
But the app isn’t just tracking and tips. Thanks to a partnership with American Well, a medical consultation is just a video call away, 24/7 (for a fee, of course). I’m all-in on anything that might keep me from dragging sick children to the ER.
Being a new mom was overwhelming. I really couldn’t believe that I was in charge of an entire human being. Anything that would have helped me get organized and feel more in control would have been awesome! I’m so glad that this is available for new parents now. I can’t wait to see what will be available by the time my kids start having kids!
