I was lucky enough to see a screening of Into The Woods last night, along with my daughter, her friend, and my friend Toni, who is as big a fan of the original musical as I am. And while I’m not allowed to post anything about it yet (they even confiscated our phones during the screening!), I doubt I’m breaking any rules if I say that we loved it. All four of us. Two fifth-graders who knew nothing about it, and two 40-ish women who know the original music inside and out.
I am, however, allowed to post this clip that Disney just released last night, the first minute or so of one of my favorite songs, On The Steps Of The Palace:
I’ve loved this song for so long, and I jumped at the chance to sing it in a cabaret about seven years ago. Sondheim’s music is beautiful and interesting to listen to, but hard to learn. So worth it though!
Unfortunately there’s no video – it was before we were all running around with little video cameras on our phones. I’m just glad I have audio!
I’ll post a full review in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to spill all the magic beans!!
