My relationship with my husband is only a few months older than my relationship with The Simpsons (the series, not the Tracey Ullman Show shorts, if you want to get picky about it). We were still teenagers when we met, and we started watching the show together when it first came out. I feel like it’s been a big part of our life together. Some couples have sports or hobbies or other things that they enjoy together. We have a dysfunctional cartoon family.
We even had cats named Patty and Selma.
One of my favorite wedding gifts was from my husband’s law school classmate Cleve:
Yup, Duff Beer mugs! A huge set of them! If you’ve ever been to my house and I didn’t offered you a drink in one of them, it’s because I didn’t trust you not to drop it. They’re that special to me.
My friend Beth posted on Facebook tonight that Lego® is releasing this next month:
And of course she tagged me in the post, because she knew that I would want it RIGHT NOW! But it won’t be released until next month, to coincide with a special episode of The Simpsons where the family will appear as Lego® characters. I can’t wait!
The set comes complete with the main members of the Simpson family, and neighbor Ned Flanders.
We have to wait until May for sixteen more minifigures to be released.
The detail in the set if fantastic. You can hear a few of the people who created it talk about the process:
We’re huge fans of Lego®. I can’t remember the last Christmas where one or both of the kids didn’t have some kind of Lego® something on their Christmas lists. This past Christmas we bought Jake a Lego® Mindstorms kit, which he’s actually playing with this minute instead of going to bed.
However, I will be buying this set for myself. And if the kids are really nice to me, they can help me put it together.
