Ten Things About Behind The Candelabra

1) The acting is excellent. Every single actor. Amazing.

2) It’s the most fabulously gay movie I’ve ever seen. The only way it could have been more gay is if I’d been watching it on a console television in Liberace’s house surrounded by house boys.

3) Speaking of house boys, I want a Carlucci of my very own.

4) I need to get this swimsuit ensemble for my husband. It’s like the male version of Princess Leia’s gold bikini.

5) The difference between Michael Douglas with hair piece and without is ridiculous. Now I understand why men get so freaked out when they start losing their hair.

6) I finally forgive Rob Lowe for quitting West Wing.

7) I never would have known that this was Debbie Reynolds if it hadn’t been in the credits.

8) Dan Aykroyd and Paul Reiser need to play it straight (no pun intended) more often. They do it well, and somehow still end up being hilarious.

9) All of my own memories of Liberace involve people making fun of him. I never knew that he was actually an amazingly gifted pianist. I thought he was just a punchline.

10) Anyone who says that nothing happened in the movie wasn’t paying attention. Perhaps they mistakenly thought that the movie was about Liberace, but it wasn’t – it was about Scott.

yes, yes, yes!!! We just watched this last night and just kept loving it more. I've now forwarded this post to my husband and to my girlfriend who I was texting "OMG did you see the Liberace movie???"

@Jenny: I'm finding that people either loved it or hated it. Nothing in between! I know a bunch of people who just loathed it.

We did the San Francisco premiere party (no celebrities this time unfortunately) but the main entertainment was Libera-she the most FABULOUS drag king (yes they do exist) and it was at the Castro Theater, the gayest gay theater in existence!

Spot on, Amy! I found myself entranced by the glitz, glam and the acting was a-mazing. When you think about the range of Matt Damon, specifically -- from playing Will in Good Will Hunting to sporting a studded bikini in Behind the Candelabra...simply amazing.

Great recap!

Dan Akyroyd could've been Elliott Gould. Same hair, same glasses. Put his pic from this side by side with the pic from Oceans Eleven of EG. They're almost twins!

@Tara: But thank goodness, we didn't have to see the chest hair/gold chains/Buddha belly combo on Dan!

Amy, I'm jealous. I can't wait to see this movie. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about everything in it. Thanks for the review!

@Sonya Wolf: We were exhausted last night after we got back from Lake George, and didn't get the kids to bed until 9:30. I was ready to crawl into bed myself. But I'm so glad we stayed up!
