Worlds Colliding In A Good Way

How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall

Tonight my work and family lives are going to collide in the best way possible. I’ve been working with Ronald McDonald House New York this year, and tonight my family and I are attending our second event as their guests (the first event was the fantastic Skate with the Greats a few months ago). We’ll be at Carnegie Hall for the New York Pops 32nd Anniversary Gala Concert.

So where’s the collision? My son Jake will be on stage performing with The Pops!!! He’ll be performing one piece during an evening filled with powerhouse names like Laura Benanti (currently starring in the Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall), Alan Cumming (The Good Wife and so much more!), Sutton Foster (OMG! Broadway royalty!), and many many more.

Jake auditioned for the New York Pops Kids On Stage program a while back, and coincidentally, I received the news that he’d been accepted at that last Ronald McDonald House event, as we were waiting in the buffet line.

And then I found out that I could cover the event for Ronald McDonald House, and attend the very exclusive cocktail party before the concert!

So here I sit in a diner, in my fancy clothes, and Jake is at his dress rehearsal with The Pops. I’m just about bursting with pride.

My son plays flute, and will be attending LaGuardia High School next year (otherwise known as the “Fame” school). And tonight, families from Ronald McDonald House will be attending the concert as well, getting what I’m sure is a much-needed break from hospitals and discomfort. I love that this partnership exists, and that families who are in New York City for such a sad reason can get a break and see some of the best of what NYC has to offer!

Ronald McDonald House NY has many great events throughout the year, and you can buy tickets and help support all of the great things that they do for families with sick children getting treatment in NYC. You can see the full list of events on their home page. There’s everything from walk-a-thons to golf tournaments to concerts!

I’d love to see you at some events this year, please let me know if you’ll be going.

I love this post! Not only does it show how your worlds collide with the great work that you do - but we all get to witness the beginnings of Jakes' musical career!
