Real, Visible Invisalign Progress!

I’m in my 20th week of treatment with Invisalign (I’m a member of the Invisalign Mom Advisory Board, and am receiving complimentary treatment). Before getting Invisalign, I saw amazing presentations about just what kinds of difficult tooth alignment problems Invisalign could treat. I saw before-and-after pictures that were incredible. I met people who were in treatment or done with treatment. I visited Invisalign’s headquarters in California and talked to people in the lab who have worked hard to make sure that Invisalign works.

And yet…

I grew up seeing my friends get braces. I was told by my own dentist that Invisalign didn’t really work. Going home from Dr. Hung’s office wearing my first set of trays, there was still a sense of incredulousness. A feeling that little plastic trays really couldn’t move my teeth in any meaningful, noticeable way.

Well, I can tell you that it works. I can literally see my progress over the last 20 weeks (that’s ten sets of aligner trays).

Look at this picture of my upper trays: on the left is the first upper tray I wore. It looks pretty much like my teeth looked when I started. But look at the tray on the right, the one I’m wearing now. Can you see the huge difference in my two front teeth?

Invisalign progress, before and after

One of my front teeth used to overlap the other pretty badly. It doesn’t anymore! It’s no longer twisted. It’s been moved over and is now almost in line with the teeth next to it.

Let’s look closer:

Before –

And after 20 weeks of treatment –

Invisalign progress, after - close up

That, my friends, is progress.

There isn’t a huge amount of visible difference with the bottom teeth yet, but they were more of a mess. From what I can tell, all of my back bottom teeth are being moved to make room so that the middle six can spread out and not overlap, but that’s going to take a lot more time. I can’t wait to watch as it happens!
